8 DAY LINKS GOLFING EXPERIENCE

EGT LOGO HORIZONTAL 2024
EGT LOGO HORIZONTAL 2024

Gentlemen,

Our Scottish golf trip includes 8 days, 7 nights and 6 rounds of incredible links golf. We arrive at the Edinburgh International Airport on Saturday morning August 14, 2027. Our first 4 nights in Scotland will be spent in the historic town of St Andrews. We'll play The New Course at St Andrews, Kingsbarns Golf Links and Dumbarnie Links.

We'll stay in double guest rooms at The Fairmont Hotel while in St Andrews. The hotel is just a short drive up the hill from downtown St Andrews and includes two 18-hole championship courses as part of their amenities.

While in St Andrews, we'll have time to visit the Kingsbarns Distillery, the R&A World Golf Museum and play the Himalaya's Putting Course. We'll also be having a few pints at the famous Jigger Inn, The Dunvegan Pub and The St Andrews Golf Club, just off the 18th hole of The Old Course and where I'm an international member.

After St Andrews, we'll head west to play Royal Troon Golf Club, Prestwick Golf Club and Western Gailes Golf Club. We'll stay in double guest rooms at The Carlton Hotel in Prestwick. Our 3 courses on the west coast are all within 20 minutes of the hotel.

Our trip includes a combination of transfers while in St Andrews and a private coach & driver on the west coast. No driving on the left for us!

Also, there'll be opportunities for individuals to play an extra round or two during the trip if you so desire. There are quite a few wonderful links courses in and around both St Andrews and the Prestwick area... Jubilee, Castle, Dukes and Crail near St Andrews and Gailes Links, Prestwick St Nicholas, Dundonald and Kilmarnock near Troon/Prestwick.

Below you should find most of the information you need to make a final go/no go decision. Please read it carefully and let me know if you have any questions. Feel free to call me to go over anything in greater detail. I will need confirmations and your deposit of $1,300.00 USD per person no later than April 3, 2026.

Please note... because EGT pays non-refundable deposits to most of our vendors, your deposit is also non-refundable should you be unable to travel at a later date. This is why travel insurance is so important and why we strongly suggest you purchase insurance. Two such companies details are noted further below.

Thanks & looking forward to it!

Experience the Ultimate Golf Getaway in Scotland

The Links Trust oversees 7 courses in St Andrews, including The Old Course. However, there are at least a dozen more courses within a 20 minute drive that are "must-plays" when you are vacationing in St Andrews.

The region overflows with classic links courses... Carnoustie, Lundin Links, Kingsbarns, Golf House Club Elie, Gleneagles, Crail and North Berwick to name just a few. The area just might have the greatest concentration of classic links courses in the world.

One of Scotland’s most historic and beloved golfing regions, a golf vacation to Scotland’s west coast will take to you the very heart of Scotland’s golfing heritage. Western Scotland can rightly champion itself as the Home of The Open Championship, having first been played here in 1860 at Prestwick Golf Club.

Trip Pricing

Trip Summary & Inclusions
  • 8 Days / 7 Nights / 6 Rounds / 8 Golfers

The Old Course

The Old Course is not guaranteed as part of this trip and the greens fees are not included. Should someone be drawn to play, they would pay the standard greens fee rate (£325.00 this year) at the Starters Building on the day of play. There is no other fee or charge associated with playing The Old Course using the ballot system.

There are 3 ways we can play The Old Course while in St Andrews... apply this September in a lottery for tee times during our trip, apply for the Daily Ballot while in St Andrews or apply for the Singles Draw while in St Andrews.

Up to 4 golfers at a time can apply for the Daily Ballot, we would break up our group into multiple applications to better our chances of being drawn. Odds are you would only be playing with one other person on the trip if you were drawn to play. The Single Draw is just what it sounds like, only single golfers would apply using this method. If drawn, you would fill in with a twosome or threesome that was already playing that day.

We will be in St Andrews for just two days that The Old Course will be available for the ballot (Monday & Tuesday). The Old Course is closed to play on Sundays, allowing whoever is in town to walk the course, take pictures and just look around.

The odds of being drawn with just two days of ballot being available to us would be low... probably 10%-20%. Should someone be drawn for play, we would attempt to rearrange the time on our existing course (depending on tee time availability), but failing to do so, the greens fee payment would be lost.

KINGSBARNS GOLF LINKS

Ranked #42 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the World

Located directly on the North Sea coast only six miles from St. Andrews, Kingsbarns is without a doubt one of the most breathtaking links courses ever developed. Though it only opened for general play in July 2000, it's fair to say that the links appears to have been in place for the past century.

Kingsbarn is a real one of a kind and contrasts with Scotland's other famous links courses in that it is a new, man-made development. The significance of the development was highlighted by Sir Michael Bonallack, winner of 5 British Amateur Titles and present captain of the R & A when he indicated that "Kingsbarns might well be one of the last true seaside links sites capable of development in Scotland".

DUMBARNIE LINKS

Ranked #17 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Other than Pebble Beach, there are few world-class courses able to offer such an expanse of beach and water frontage as that we have been blessed with at Dumbarnie Links. This rare piece of land has a mile and a half of sea frontage with panoramic views over the Firth of Forth.

At first glance Dumbarnie Links may have the appearance of the classic links courses where The Open Championship has been played since 1860.  However, the 345 acre site is particularly special.  Its dual elevations have provided the opportunity to create a number of elevated tees where holes play directly towards panoramic views of the Firth of Forth. Fourteen of the holes have views of the Bay and the Firth of Forth.

The clubhouse is situated 100-feet above sea level with spectacular sweeping views across the golf course and the Bay.

THE NEW COURSE AT ST ANDREWS

Ranked #29 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Were it not for the proximity of its more illustrious and ancient neighbor, many experts feel that the Open Championships – as well as many other major golfing events – would have been fought out here, the world's oldest and most challenging 'new' course.

Designed by Old Tom Morris and opened for play in 1895, the layout was based on the traditional out and back routing, and among its most famous features are the shared fairways and a double green at the 3rd and 15th holes.

The New Course is known and loved for its well designed greenside and fairway bunkers, plus a series of genuinely difficult homeward holes. The undulating fairways and deep greens make the course a classic links and, just like the Old Course, it has a habit of looking deceptively simple, especially when the sun is high.

ROYAL TROON GOLF CLUB

Ranked #40 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the World

Host of 8 British Open Championships.

In 1923, Royal Troon Golf Club hosted its first Open and finally moved out of the shadow of its famous neighbor, Prestwick. It is a traditional out and back links course. The opening few holes are relatively gentle, with a series of short par fours running along the Firth of Clyde. It’s from these early holes that you get the chance to soak up the views.

The course measures 7,208 yards from the championship tees and bunkers are everywhere, the majority of which are not visible from the tees. There’s plenty of deep rough and a smattering of gorse and broom to punish the wayward shot. The 6th is the longest par five in Open Championship golf and the 8th the “Postage Stamp” is the shortest par three in the Open rota at 123 yards.

PRESTWICK GOLF CLUB

Ranked #15 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Host to 24 British Open Championships

Prestwick Golf Club was founded In 1851, with Old Tom Morris as “Keeper of the Green”. Nine years later in 1860, the British Open Championship was born and played for the first time at Prestwick. The Open has been held here 24 times, although the most recent championship was in 1925. St Andrews is the only venue to have hosted more Opens (26) than Prestwick.

The course is a traditional British links, with a layout of holes that snake through rugged dunes and rippled fairways. There are numerous blind holes and cavernous bunkers with wooden steps to take you down to the bottom. The greens are notoriously firm and fast, some are hidden in hollows while others are raised high. The majority are quite small and all of them have humps and hollows to negotiate.

WESTERN GAILES GOLF LINKS

Ranked #14 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Host of the 1972 Curtis Cup & host of the 1964 European PGA Championship.

Western Gailes Golf Club is between Irvine Bay and the railway tracks on one of Ayrshire’s narrowest strips of links land. The club and its next-door neighbor, Glasgow Gailes, are the northernmost of the exceptional links courses located on this stretch of Ayrshire coastline.

The holes at Western Gailes are wonderfully varied. The fairways undulate gently, interrupted occasionally by three meandering burns that dissect the property. The greens sites are located in naturally folded ground, some are protected by burns while others are in hollows guarded by sand dunes. All the greens are fast, firm and subtly contoured.

THE HIMALAYA'S PUTTING COURSE

A private club founded in 1867, the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club course is open to the public daily from April to September (and in March and October, weather permitting).

Before 1860 the caddies of St Andrews had laid out a small putting area near where Rusacks Hotel now stands. They would play to pass the time while waiting for a bag. When the course was quiet a few young ladies would play.

There was some tension between the caddies and the ladies, so much so that it was decided a piece of ground be found where the ladies could play away from the caddies. There was an unused piece of ground to the north of the Swilcan Burn. The ground was rough with whins which were used by local washerwomen to dry clothes, and pitted with rabbit holes. A nine hole course was laid out by Old Tom Morris, requiring a cleek and a putter, and so the St Andrews Ladies’ Golf Club was formed in 1867.

The Himalayas lie between the famous Old Course and the spectacular West Sands, only a ten minute walk from the center of  St Andrews.

EDINBURGH CASTLE

Edinburgh Castle has played a pivotal role in Scottish history, both as a royal residence and as a military stronghold. The castle last saw military action in 1745 and from then until the 1920s it served as the British army's main base in Scotland. Today it is one of Scotland's most atmospheric and popular tourist attractions.

The brooding, black crags of Castle Rock, rising above the western end of Princes St, are the very reason for Edinburgh's existence. This rocky hill was the most easily defended hilltop on the invasion route between England and central Scotland, a route followed by countless armies from the Roman legions of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD to the Jacobite troops of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745.

The castle is open year-round with tour hours ranging from 9.30am to 5pm.

KINGSBARNS DISTILLERY, ST ANDREWS

Realizing there was no nearby whisky distillery to satisfy those visiting St Andrews, and having come across a derelict 18th century farm situated just a short distance from Kingsbarns, former Old Course caddie Douglas Clement decided to build his own.

Kingsbarns Distillery was opened in 2014 and began producing a limited run of single malt scotch whisky each year.

The distillery tour is led by one of their senior guides and is suitable for smaller groups who have time to enjoy a more leisurely visit and a longer tutored whisky tasting.

DUNNOTTAR CASTLE, ABERDEEN

If you had to pick just one castle in all of Scotland to trust with your life in a time of great danger then it would without any doubt be Dunnottar Castle. No other Scottish castle comes close in terms of a sense of sheer brooding impregnability. This is a castle which looks across to the nearby coastal cliffs and sea and whose presence, even today, conveys a very simply message: "You are not welcome."

The outcrop of rock on which Dunnottar Castle stands might have been designed specifically to permit the building of the most impregnable fortress in Scotland. Sheer cliffs 160ft high almost completely surround a flat area over three acres in size. The rock was once joined by a narrow fin to the mainland, but even this was carved away to ensure access along it was not possible.
