EMPORDA GOLF CLUB
The resort, which has undergone a major upgrade in 2020, features two 18-hole courses – the Links Course and the Forest Course – with both layouts designed by world-acclaimed architect Robert von Hage. His first design project in Spain, the courses feature all the characteristics associated with von Hagge, requiring players to employ a variety of strokes and techniques to overcome the challenge posed.
Links
Reminiscent of many seaside courses in the UK and Ireland, Empordà Links sways between dunes, lakes and strategically placed bunkers throughout its 18 holes. Measuring 6,746 yards, it requires good ball-striking as well as imagination and creativity to score well.
Forest
In contrast to Empordà Links, Empordà Forest winds through a traditional Mediterranean pine forest that offers welcome protection when the wind is up. Players must navigate their way through a series of rolling fairways that have been carved through the trees, but beware of the expansive lakes that have the potential to wreck any card.
PGA CATALUNYA STADIUM COURSE
The spectacular and imposing course has been consistently ranked among the best ten golf courses in Europe since it was opened in 1999 and was voted #4 in continental Europe and #1 in Spain in 2019. As the venue for numerous PGA European Tour events, it is also routinely singled out for praise from the professional playing fraternity.
Be warned, however, the beauty of the PGA Catalunya Stadium Course can distract from the many dangers waiting to do serious damage to your scorecard. It makes no concessions with the trees pressing onto fairways, strategically placed bunkers and lakes that come into play on no fewer than seven of the toughest holes.
PERALADA GOLF CLUB
Nestled between the Pyrenees and the Costa Brava, caressed by a Mediterranean climate and blending seamlessly into the stunning nature of the Empordà (source of inspiration for great masters like Dalí).
The beautiful course forms part of the Peralada Golf Resort along with the 5 star luxury Hotel Peralada Wine Spa & Golf with its Wine Spa and Casino
GOLF DE PALS
Located on the farmland of Arenals de Mar, on dunes covered by an immense pine forest planted seventy years ago, Golf de Pals was an idea created at the beginning of the seventies by Baltasar Parera Vilar and his wife Doña Rosa Coll Llach, who provided the land necessary as well as the construction of the first nine holes and the clubhouse, as well as the necessary maintenance equipment.
Although the magazine Destino, in its February edition of 1961, published the first sketches of the future golf course, work did not start until 1964, under the management of the English architect Mr. Fred Hawtree, who from the very beginning worked closely with the plans of the Parera-Coll family.
Since opening, the course has been considered as one of the finest in Spain thanks to its design and construction, and it has been the venue of numerous international competitions.
