Epic Golf Travel

September 1, 2022

Many thanks for your inquiry, we would love to be your resource for all your golf travel needs!

Epic Golf Travel was founded over 25 years ago and our company partners are PGA Professionals who have over 75 years of golf industry and travel experience. We are members of the International Association of Golf Tour Operators (IAGTO), the leading international golf tourism organization, as well as the American Society of Travel Agents (ASTA).

At Epic Golf Travel, our motto, “The Best Golf Vacations on the Planet”, is our sincere promise to you to deliver an exceptional golf travel experience... every trip you take and every time you take one.

To this end, we spend more hours planning and executing your trip than any other golf tour company in the industry. For those who seek a genuine interest in their golf experience and fanatical attention to detail, we believe you’ll appreciate our absolute commitment to you and your golf travel plans.

The attached schedule is based on 2 golfers traveling and includes 8 nights double accommodations, 6 rounds of golf, our help in acquiring a tee time on The Old Course via the Daily Ballot, transfers to and from the airport and to and from each golf course (except the Duke Course and The Old Course which are a few minutes walk from your hotel) and a full Scottish breakfast each morning.

I was unable to find accommodations in St Andrews for 9 consecutive nights, so I took the liberty of updating your proposal to 8 nights and 6 rounds. If you definitely wished to stay 9 nights, I would need to look into vacation flats, villas or apartments in St Andrews, which I'm happy to do. They trip would be somewhat more expensive, as they only rent by the week during high season, and I would need to rent a unit for two weeks. You can let me know if you'd like me to look into this.

Because of the limited availability of lodging in St Andrews, I have put a hold on a guest room for you in my favorite hotel in town. Your confirmed lodging in St Andrews is a King Guest Room at The Ardgowan Hotel. The hotel is located in the center of St Andrews and is just a few minutes walk to the first tee of The Old Course and is within easy walking distance of all restaurants, pubs, shopping and sights in St Andrews.

Your suggested golf has you playing 6 rounds plus our help in acquiring a tee time on The Old Course using the Daily Ballot (greens fee not included and is to be paid onsite). I've included a nice selection of classic links courses for you, most of which are well over 100 years old and will allow you to experience true links golf while in Scotland. I've played them all and I love every one. You'll play Carnoustie Championship Course, Crail Balcomie GC, Lundin Links GC, Golf House Club Elie, The Dukes Course and Scotscraig GC.

We will enter you in the Daily Ballot for The Old Course and re-arrange existing tee times to fit around play there. Please Note: The Old Course greens fee of £195.00 (2022 pricing) is not included in the trip pricing. This greens fee must be paid onsite the day of play. More information on your lodging and golf courses may be found below.

For your transportation, I have included transfers to and from the airport and to and from each of your golf courses (except for The Old Course and The Dukes Course, both of which are a short walk from your hotel).

When traveling to Scotland, I suggest you fly into the Edinburgh International Airport, which is about an hour and 15 minutes from St Andrews.

Our prices INCLUDE ALL TAXES AND ANY RESORT OR LODGING FEES, there are no hidden costs of any kind.

Your monies are 100% protected from any Coronavirus related issues. Your trip may be rescheduled with no penalty should there be any governmental closures, delays or travel bans specific to COVID-19.

When we've reached the point where you're ready to book, you can simply click on the "Ready to Book" button contained herein and it will walk you through the process of making your deposit and other payments.

I look forward to your thoughts and please reach out with your questions or comments.

Kind regards,

THE OLD COURSE

VIA THE DAILY BALLOT (GREENS FEE OR TEE TIME NOT INCLUDED)

Ranked #5 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the World

Simply put, the oldest and most iconic golf course in the world. The Swilcan Bridge and Hell Bunker are recognizable names across the globe, yet the greatest feature of the Old Course is that despite its grand status, it remains a public golf course, open to all.

Rarely is the Old course ranked outside the top ten in the world, it’s a very special links, designed by Mother Nature. It is probable that golf was played here back in the 12th century, what is certain is that the Old Course is one of the oldest golf courses in the world.

It's unlikely that the Old Course will feel familiar when you play it for the first time (except perhaps the 1st, 17th and 18th). Television tend to make the ground look very flat, but the humps, hollows and ripples in the fairways are much deeper when you get out onto the course, as indeed are the pot bunkers.

CARNOUSTIE GOLF LINKS CHAMPIONSHIP COURSE

Ranked #26 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the World

The Championship Course at Carnoustie has hosted The Open Championship no less than six times and is a superb example of traditional links golf. It is widely recognized as one of the best seaside links golf courses in the world and many professionals have declared it as one of the toughest.

The original 18 hole course was designed by Old Tom Morris in 1857, but was revisited by James Braid in 1926 and has been hardly altered since.

With sloping fairways, fast greens and a selection of the most formidable bunkers in links golf, the Championship Course at Carnoustie certainly guarantees visitors an enjoyable but testing round on a memorable golf course.

CRAIL BALCOMIE LINKS

Ranked #67 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

One of the world's oldest golf clubs, Crail Golfing Society was founded in February 1786 and initially comprised membership of 11 local golfers. The club's original home was located at Sauchope just outside the picturesque fishing village of Crail and it was not until 1895, with the help of Old Tom Morris did they relocate to their present home at Balcomie Golf Links.

The Balcomie Links at Crail, though not particularly long, is a truly beautiful venue with superb views of the North Sea from every tee. Far removed from the bustle of everyday life, many holes climb and tumble alongside the water's edge and the rocky outcrops of the Forth shore. A truly memorable round and one not to miss.

LUNDIN LINKS GOLF CLUB

18 holes, 71 par, 6,371 yards

The Lundin Golf Club was founded in May of 1868.

The course remains largely as it was some 100 years ago. The first five holes are in classic links tradition playing from the Clubhouse to the Mile Dyke. Players then cross the now extinct railway line and play the nine ‘new’ holes on what one might describe as a cross between links and parkland turf. Then back across the railway, the last four holes revert to the genuine links tradition.

Today Lundin Golf Club offers some of the finest examples of links holes in Scotland and for many years has been a worthy participant in the Final Qualifying stages of The Open prior to its staging at St. Andrews.

SCOTSCRAIG GOLF CLUB

Ranked #53 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Scotscraig Golf Club was founded in 1817 by some members of the St. Andrews Society of Golfers (later to become the Royal and Ancient Golf Club) who wished to play more golf than the Society's occasional meetings afforded them.

It is the 13th oldest golf club in the world and was designed by two of the greatest Scottish course architects ever, Old Tom Morris and James Braid. It is a unique mix of heathland and links golf and is a 6 time Open Championship Qualifying Venue.

It has held the Scottish Seniors Championship, the Scottish Boys and Girls Amateur Championships and the Scottish Seniors Masters Championship.

Playing here gives you the unique opportunity to experience multiple styles of Scottish golf... the typical links style we love so much, as well as heathland, which is best described as an inland links course with gorse and heather and most likely with some trees dotted throughout the landscape.

GOLF HOUSE CLUB ELIE

Ranked #43 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

Elie is one of the most highly regarded courses in Scotland and the historic links terrain effortlessly combines undulating fairways with large, fast and firm greens.

It also has some sensational views for golfers to enjoy and these play an important part in creating what is one of the most wonderful golfing experiences not just in Fife, but also in Scotland.

At 6,273 yards the course is not long, but its network of bunkers are beautifully placed to catch those that stray offline or misjudge their distances. This can be all too easy to do, especially as the prevailing south westerly breeze slackens or stiffens during the course of a round.

Elie’s quick and contoured greens add a further layer of protection and the manicured putting surfaces rank comfortably alongside the best in the country.

The course has hosted the British Seniors Championship, the Scottish Professionals Championship, the Scottish Ladies Championship and qualifying rounds for the Open Championship.

THE DUKES COURSE

Ranked #33 in Top 100 Golf Courses in Scotland

With a spectacular setting above St Andrews, the championship course at The Duke's gives magnificent panoramic views over the surrounding countryside all the way to the sea.

The Duke's is regarded as one of the finest heathland championship courses in the British Isles. Its style ranks alongside the great inland challenges, demanding accuracy and inventive play over power golf.

The course was originally designed by Peter Thomson, the 5 time Open Championship winner. It has since been renovated with five new links-style holes being added to complement the classic links courses in the St Andrews area.

The Dukes was chosen to host the 2014 International European Amateur Championship, one of the four majors in the world of amateur golf.

The hotel was designed by the famous Scottish architect, George Rae, and was built in 1847. It comprises 29 comfortable en suite bedrooms across the two adjoining Georgian town houses. The Pilmour Hotel, located just next door, dates from 1820 and has an additional 7 en suite bedrooms.

THINGS TO SEE & DO

THINGS TO SEE & DO

THE BRITISH GOLF MUSEUM

From the 16th century to the present day, the whole history of the great game is explored at The British Golf Museum. Discover the equipment, personalities and prizes of our much loved sport. Brought to life with hands on activities, interactives and modern interpretation, this is a must see attraction.

Visit their new flagship exhibition space, 'The Open Gallery', exploring the rich history of golf's oldest Major. Also in the Museum there are two exciting temporary exhibitions on golfing greats Sir Henry Cotton and Freddie Tait. Please visit throughout the year for their program of weekly events and lecture series.

The museum is a 5 minute walk from the town centre and is situated directly opposite The Royal and Ancient Clubhouse. There is a large car park behind the museum, operated by Fife Council and a coach drop off point.

THE HIMALAYA'S PUTTING COURSE (ST ANDREWS LADIES' PUTTING CLUB)

A private club founded in 1867, the St Andrews Ladies' Putting Club course is open to the public daily from April to September (and in March and October, weather permitting).

Before 1860 the caddies of St Andrews had laid out a small putting area near where Rusacks Hotel now stands. They would play to pass the time while waiting for a bag. When the course was quiet a few young ladies would play.

There was some tension between the caddies and the ladies, so much so that it was decided a piece of ground be found where the ladies could play away from the caddies. There was an unused piece of ground to the north of the Swilcan Burn. The ground was rough with whins which were used by local washerwomen to dry clothes, and pitted with rabbit holes. A nine hole course was laid out by Old Tom Morris, requiring a cleek and a putter, and so the St Andrews Ladies’ Golf Club was formed in 1867.

The Himalayas lie between the famous Old Course and the spectacular West Sands, only a ten minute walk from the center of  St Andrews.

EDINBURGH CASTLE

Edinburgh Castle has played a pivotal role in Scottish history, both as a royal residence and as a military stronghold. The castle last saw military action in 1745 and from then until the 1920s it served as the British army's main base in Scotland. Today it is one of Scotland's most atmospheric and popular tourist attractions.

The brooding, black crags of Castle Rock, rising above the western end of Princes St, are the very reason for Edinburgh's existence. This rocky hill was the most easily defended hilltop on the invasion route between England and central Scotland, a route followed by countless armies from the Roman legions of the 1st and 2nd centuries AD to the Jacobite troops of Bonnie Prince Charlie in 1745.

The Entrance Gateway, flanked by statues of Robert the Bruce and William Wallace, opens to a cobbled lane that leads up beneath the 16th-century Portcullis Gate to the cannons ranged along the Argyle and Mills Mount Batteries. The battlements here have great views over the New Town to the Firth of Forth.
