October 4, 2021

Hello Tony!

I hope all is well and you've spent time on the links this summer...

I have pricing for your trip and I have also made some adjustments to your itinerary based on my experiences along the California coast, as well as individual course and lodging availability.

The trip schedule is based on 14 golfers traveling and includes 14 nights single luxury accommodations, 10 rounds of golf, luxury private coach transportation for the entirety of your trip, a luxury 7-passenger SUV at each resort, all taxes and resort fees and numerous other inclusions.

I have added San Francisco to your destinations, as I think you would thoroughly enjoy visiting there while you're in the States. I have you staying in downtown San Francisco for 3 nights while you play Half Moon Bay Ocean Course and TPC Harding Park. Half Moon Bay sits directly on the Pacific Ocean while TPC Harding Park is where the 2020 PGA Championship was held. The rest of your trip is almost identical to your original itinerary.

Regarding your lodging, I have included ocean views with the guest rooms where available (Pebble Beach & The Resort at Pelican Hill). If this is not important, I can update your lodging to garden view or resort view guest rooms which would decrease the cost of the trip.

Regarding your coach transportation, this type of travel is far less popular or common in the USA than in the UK and Europe. We have spoken with a number of companies that offer full coach service, but none are yet willing to quote a final price or offer us a contract. This is due to the trip being a year away and their stated uncertainty of fixed costs such as fuel, driver expense, tolls, insurance, etc. I have an understanding of what the coach and driver price range will be, but I cannot guarantee a fixed price until I'm able to receive a contract from one of the suppliers.

Taking the ball-parked prices from the 5 companies we have talked to so far, I estimate the coach and driver portion of the trip will be $2,000.00 USD - $3,500.00 USD per person (assuming 14 golfers are traveling). If this seems expensive (which it does to me), it's due to a combination of California governmental regulations and limited competition. This coach and driver cost is NOT included in the pricing for the trip you see below, as I want to continue my research until we find the best and safest transportation for you.

One other thing to note regarding the number of golfers at each destination, I have currently priced the trip and reserved tee times assuming all 14 would be playing. I would hate to have 2 in your group not play Pebble Beach or Pasatiempo or Torrey Pines for instance. We can adjust pricing if need be once I have a little more information on the number of golfers at each destination.

We are also compiling a list of things for the group to do before and after golf, be they your typical sightseeing options or places with good food, good music and plenty of craic.

Please review the itinerary and give me your thoughts at your earliest convenience. Of course, if you'd like to add or subtract parts of the trip, please feel free to make those comments. Currently, much of your golf and lodging is being held, but I will need to make deposits as early as this week to ensure all your preferred courses and accommodations are available.

I look forward to your thoughts and please reach out with any questions or comments.

Kind regards,

GOLF COURSES

GOLF COURSES

HALF MOON BAY OCEAN COURSE

Ranked #12 in Top 100 Public Golf Courses in the USA

Situated on more than a mile of beautiful beaches along the San Mateo County Coast of California, Half Moon Bay Golf Links features 36 holes of stunning golf located just 30 minutes from San Francisco and San Jose.

Opening in 1997, The Ocean Course was designed by renowned architect Arthur Hills in traditional links style. You'll find firm, wide open fairways bordered by wispy native grasses and seasonal wildflowers. The changes in elevation adds drama, as does the prevailing on-shore winds, coastal fog and jaw-dropping sunsets.

While views of the Pacific can be found on nearly every hole, it is the final three holes that set the course apart, including the oceanside 18th hole, pictured to the right.

TPC HARDING PARK GOLF CLUB

Ranked #77 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the USA

TPC Harding Park is situated on a gently rolling peninsula surrounded by the shores of Lake Merced in San Francisco. The championship layout has been host to numerous championships such as the San Francisco Open and the Lucky International Professional Golf Championship. The PGA Tour returned to TPC Harding Park for the 2005 WGC American Express Championship, the 2009 Presidents Cup, the Charles Schwab Cup Championships in 2010, 2011 and 2013 and was Host of the 2015 WGC-Cadillac Match Play.

TPC Harding Park’s championship layout follows the original routing designed by architect Willie Watson and Sam Whiting in 1925. The course is lined with towering Monterey Cypress trees and borders Lake Merced. TPC Harding Park has contoured green complexes and four sets of tees will challenge every golfer from beginner to the most skilled player. TPC Harding Park also features a 9-hole course, the Fleming 9, which is over 2,100 yards.

.

PASATIEMPO GOLF CLUB

Ranked #56 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the USA

Pasatiempo was designed by world-renowned golf architect Alister MacKenzie. Even though MacKenzie also designed Augusta National and Cypress Point, Pasatiempo was his favorite layout and where he made his American home, which still borders the sixth fairway. Today, this historic top 100 course is a semi-private golf club that sets aside certain tee times each day for public play.

It is classic California golf, wildly undulating topography, fairways cut through Monterey pines and towering eucalyptus trees and views that run for miles out across the Pacific Ocean. Pasatiempo absolutely delivers a memorable golf experience; it is truly one of the finest championship golf courses in the world.

The course has hosted the Western Intercollegiate for the past 65 years which features the top college players in the world. Pasatiempo has hosted USGA Championships including the 1986 U.S. Women’s Amateur and the 2004 U.S. Senior Women’s Amateur.

THE LINKS AT SPANISH BAY

18 holes, 72 par, 6821 yards

Meandering among the sweeping sand dunes along 17-Mile Drive, The Links at Spanish Bay unveils some of the most spectacular seaside views in Pebble Beach. The rolling fairways move through and around the dunescape, before returning to the white sand of Spanish Bay Beach for a thrilling finish along the coast.

The Links at Spanish Bay requires precision and patience while negotiating sand dunes, pot bunkers, challenging greens and an ocean breeze. Robert Trent Jones, Jr., Tom Watson and Sandy Tatum teamed up to artfully craft a distinctly Scottish look, blending green and golden hues against a spectacular beachside backdrop to produce a memorable experience unlike any other in Pebble Beach.

PEBBLE BEACH GOLF LINKS

Ranked #17 in Top 100 Golf Courses in the World

18 holes, 72 par, 6828 yards

Pebble Beach hosted its sixth U.S. Open in 2019, and its fifth U.S. Amateur in 2018. Pebble Beach has hosted a PGA TOUR event since 1947, rolling out its green-carpet fairways not just for the game’s best golfers, but also Hall-of-Fame athletes and Hollywood stars.

It has breathtaking beauty, hole number four tees off a stretch of seven stunning seaside holes perched atop dramatic cliffs, and Pebble Beach finishes with two of the most beautiful holes in all of golf. The course design and strategy is second to none and it  features some of the most famous par-3s (No. 7), par-4s (No. 8) and par-5s (No. 18) in golf and plenty of heroic shot-making opportunities.

PELICAN HILL OCEAN NORTH & SOUTH

With the Ocean North and Ocean South Courses, Tom Fazio’s vision of amazing seaside golf has been brought to life in its purest form. These 36 holes of spectacular golf weave their way through stunning terrain and breathtaking vistas, with every lie, every shot and every hole designed to perfectly complement the natural landscape.

Of its two Tom Fazio-designed golf courses, the Ocean South was the first to open, in 1991. Its wide, terraced fairways and large, undulating greens cascade downward from the Mediterranean-style clubhouse toward the coastline. Ravines and canyons come into play on most holes, though Fazio did a superb job of giving golfers space to play safely.

The Ocean North Course occupies a higher piece of ground than its sister Ocean South course, and its Pacific Ocean views from every hole are absolutely stunning. Long-range vistas toward Catalina Island and the city of Newport Beach make a round here instantly memorable, especially in late afternoon as the sun sets over the ocean.

TORREY PINES NORTH & SOUTH

Torrey Pines is home to two 18-hole championship courses, the North and South courses, each offering its own challenges and views. Originally opened in 1957, both the South Course and North Course were designed by famous course architect William P. Bell and were completed by his son, William F. Bell.

While both the North and South courses test a golfer's skill with tight fairways, lush rough, trees, sand and bunkers, each course offers a unique golfing experience. On the South Course you can take in the fantastic views of the Pacific Ocean, just a hundred yards below you. Most other holes on the South offer sweeping views of a large natural canyon. On the North Course, be careful of several holes that sit directly on the bluffs, overlooking the magnificent coastline and Pacific Ocean.

The South Course was home to the 2008 U.S. Open and the Open is set to return here again in 2021.

DEL MAR COUNTRY CLUB

Del Mar Country Club is one of the premier country clubs in Southern California and is owned by Madeleine Anne Pickens, whose late father was a famed English golf course designer.

Tucked away in a quiet, secluded valley of Rancho Santa Fe, this Joseph Lee design offers an exhilarating and challenging experience. The course encompasses breathtaking vistas, rolling hills and an abundance of native flora and fauna. Winding around streams, lakes, and cascading waterfalls, Del Mar Country Club is fully integrated into the surrounding terrain.

One of golf's most famous and engaging stars, Phil Mickelson, is a member at Del Mar.

BIG SUR

Welcome to one of the world’s most unforgettable stretches of coastline. Big Sur's roughly 90-mile-long stretch of redwood- and fog-trimmed waterfront between Carmel-by-the-Sea and Hearst Castle draws you (and writers like Henry Miller and Beat Generation darling Jack Kerouac) in with a magic allure that is almost palpable. This is, quite simply, a place you want to be—bluffs, sea, and sky... The most beautiful and awe inspiring coastline in the world.

The classic drive through Big Sur, along twisting Highway 1, offers plenty of pullovers at places like seen-it-in-a-million-car-commercials Bixby Bridge. Stop at parks along the coastline and look up to see endangered California condors, North America’s largest birds, or look down to scan the swells for migrating whales or sea otters floating among dense beds of kelp, California’s signature seaweed.

The region’s beauty also makes it a magnet for exclusive, splurge-worthy hotels like the cliff-hugging Post Ranch Inn or luxurious Ventana Big Sur.

EDIN RIFT VINEYARDS

With vineyards dating to 1849, Eden Rift Vineyards is among the oldest, continually producing estate vineyards in California. A remote, pacific refuge located under the shadow of the Gavilan Mountain Range, the estate rests on the San Andreas Fault and is part of the Cienega Valley AVA. The views of the surrounding countryside are amazing.

Only 20 miles from the Pacific Ocean, this site benefits from an ideal, temperate maritime climate as well as the coveted calcareous soil requisite in the cultivation of vivid, energetic Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.

An historic, head-trained block of Zinfandel, planted in 1906, still thrives outside the estate’s main residence, The Dickinson House. Designed by famed architect Walter Burley Griffin and also built in 1906, the Dickinson House is open for wine tasting Thursday through Monday, from 11am to 4pm.

The varieties most ideally suited to the wineries micro- and macro-climates are Pinot Noir, Chardonnay, Zinfandel and Pinot Gris. Your trip includes a tour and tasting at Edin Rift.

HEARST CASTLE

Hearst Castle in San Simeon is a National Historic Landmark and California Historical Landmark located on the Central Coast of California. Conceived by William Randolph Hearst, the publishing tycoon, and his architect Julia Morgan, it was built between 1919 and 1947. Known formally as "La Cuesta Encantada" (The Enchanted Hill), Hearst called his castle “the ranch".

His father George Hearst had purchased the original 40,000 acre estate in 1865 and in 1919 Hearst inherited some $11 million (equivalent to $160 million today) and estates including the land at San Simeon. He used his fortune to further develop his media empire and began construction of what would become one of the largest family estates in the country.

The estate has 42 bedrooms, 61 bathrooms, 19 sitting rooms, indoor and outdoor pools, tennis courts, a movie theater and an airfield.

SAN DIEGO ZOO

The San Diego Zoo is widely recognized as one of the best, if not the best, zoos in the entire world. It houses more than 3.500 animals of  more than 800 species.

The San Diego Zoo was a pioneer in the concept of open-air, cageless exhibits that re-create natural animal habitats. It is one of the few zoos in the world that houses, and successfully bred the giant panda. In 2013, the zoo added a new Australian Outback exhibit, providing an updated Australian animal experience. Another new exhibit, called Africa Rocks, opened in 2017.

With over 4 million visitors, San Diego Zoo is the most visited zoo in the United States.
